FBI Deputy Director Affirms Jeffrey Epstein’s Death Was a Suicide, According to Agency Records
The FBI has reaffirmed that financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in his jail cell, according to internal agency records, putting to rest — at least officially — years of public speculation and conspiracy theories.
FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate confirmed during a recent briefing that the agency’s files support the determination made by the New York City medical examiner in 2019, which ruled Epstein’s death a suicide by hanging. The 66-year-old was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
Abbate stated that the FBI’s investigative findings aligned with the original medical conclusion and that no evidence of foul play was uncovered during their probe.
Epstein’s death sparked widespread controversy and suspicion, fueled by high-profile connections to influential political and business figures, along with lapses in jail protocol at the time of his death — including broken security cameras and guards who allegedly fell asleep on duty.
Despite persistent public doubt and the proliferation of conspiracy theories suggesting possible foul play, the FBI’s statement represents a firm stance from the federal agency, echoing the Justice Department’s earlier findings.
No further criminal investigation into Epstein’s death is expected to be reopened at this time, though related inquiries — particularly into his associates and broader sex trafficking network — remain ongoing
