Jessica “Jesse” Olsen, 37, was killed in October during what her family describes as a brutal domestic assault. Five months later, her husband—Lt. Commander Christopher Olsen—was federally charged in connection with her death. He appeared for his first pre-trial hearing late last month in San Diego, California, according to Jessica’s sister, Dominique Arguinzoni.

The incident allegedly occurred while the couple was off base in Fukuoka, Japan, celebrating Christopher’s birthday. Arguinzoni claims that her sister was strangled and suffered fatal head trauma. Christopher Olsen was stationed at the U.S. Navy base in Sasebo at the time.

Arguinzoni, who lives in Goshen, says the family has faced ongoing frustration in the aftermath, citing a lack of transparency and communication from federal authorities. Despite repeated efforts, they have yet to receive Jessica’s personal belongings or clear updates about the legal proceedings.

“From the very beginning, our family has been treated like an afterthought,” Arguinzoni said. “As we tried to grieve, we were forced to chase down answers—making endless calls to officials, only to be passed off or ignored. We’re still making unanswered requests for basic updates. There’s no guidance on what comes next. No clear communication. No respect. The Navy’s silence is not only inhumane—it’s part of the injustice.”

A representative for the U.S. Navy confirmed that a federal case is underway against Christopher Olsen but declined to provide further details.

News 12 reached out to Olsen’s family in Binghamton, New York, but did not receive a response.

According to Olsen’s attorney, the trial is set to take place this October at the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan.
